Freie Universität Berlin is seeking to employ two pre-docs for the Cluster of Excellence “Contestations of the Liberal Script” (SCRIPTS).
SCRIPTS analyzes the contemporary controversies about the liberal order from a historical, global, and comparative perspective. It connects the academic expertise in the social sciences and area studies in Berlin, collaborates with research institutions in all world regions, and maintains cooperative ties with major political, cultural and social institutions.
The two positions will be part of a research group developing, implementing and analyzing a comparative survey in at least 15 countries from all regions of the world as well as doing related research.
Successful applicants will primarily fulfill three tasks: (1) Contribute to the success of the comparative survey project with the goal of determining the extent to which the liberal script is embraced and contested by individuals living in different countries and regions of the world and how differences between countries and within countries can be explained. (2) Participate in the work of the research group comparing elite and citizen evaluations of the liberal script. (3) The work on the project entails the opportunity to complete a doctoral thesis which is thematically closely connected to the research interests of the group and SCRIPTS.
